Silas Peirce founded a chain of grocery stores that operated in the Boston area beginning in 1815 and remaining in business for 111 years. Among the many wares of Peirce's stores available for purchase were number nine cigars, priced at 5¢ each. This iron faceplate came from a mechanical cigar cutter made by Peirce's company and is a fun piece of late 19th century tobacciana.
