Western Electric Company was established in 1869 in Cleveland, OH where they manufactured items like typewriters and alarms. Western Union bought out the business along with a lawsuit over telephone patents with Bell Telephone Company, who ended up winning and absorbing Western Electric Company in 1879. In the early 1900’s there were around 20,000 installed in NYC, by 1960 Bell Telephone Company had installed over 1 million payphones in the US. This model is from the 1940-1950’s and has sweet handpainted touches that are priceless! Not in working condition but all pieces are there.
