The American Manufacturing Company of Texas, or AMCOT, with its somewhat ambiguous name, manufactured oil drilling equipment. It was also an atomic weapons employer in Texas during World War II and years after. While it is unclear exactly what sort of atomic related work happened at the AMCOT facilities, the former site was flagged for radiation contamination in the wake of uranium testing that was undertaken there in the 1960s. This seemingly simple sign for a company with an interesting history dates to the early ’50s and is in great shape with a few spalls.
