American Express, perhaps one of the most ubiquitous and celebrated (and lamented!) names in the credit industry. Founded in 1850 as an express mail service, the company grew, expanding into travel services and eventually finance; a combination that lead to the creation of the well known traveler’s cheque in the 1890’s. This sign came to us from the east coast and dates to the early 20th century.
