Salvaged from Salem’s no longer extant Capitol Theater, this white glazed terra cotta block is a remnant of a grand architectural facade. The theater opened in 1926 and was designed by the Portland architectural firm Tourtelotte & Hummel and embraces an American Classical style, with a terracotta facade, which was a popular style at the time. A touch of gothic revival lingers in the design, which features a central diamond recess with trillium flowers at each corner.
