Founded in 1830 by two brothers, Thaddeus and Erastus Fairbanks, the Fairbanks Scales Co. made its name in the Industrial Revolution by manufacturing a scale that reduced the amount of weight needed to counter-balance a load. The Fairbanks Scale Co. still operates to this day.
This beautifully designed gold scale operates by depressing a lever that raises the beam and allows the pans to shift. The small drawer is filled with various weights and paper notes that hint to the scale’s history.
