Established in 1865 by Alfred H. Andrews, the A.H. Andrews Co. became the largest furniture manufacturing company in Chicago by the 1880s. This folding school bench is an excellent example of the design style favored by A.H. Andrews. With a gently curving backrest and seat, the design was purported to encourage attention in students while in the classroom.
