Two styles of German-made pommel goats. Pommel goats were and are used for competitive gymnastics. They were originally made for soldiers to train mounting and dismounting horses and they developed into their own gymnastics event. Germany’s Friedrich Jahn is noted as the first to create a basic training manual for the sport.
