Founded in 1877 by Joseph S. Hartmann, Hartmann Inc. specialized in luxury luggage. The wardrobe trunk became popular during the Industrial Revolution, when travel was dominated by the railroad. In 1923, Hartmann pioneered the cushion top for wardrobe trunks, ensuring that coat hangers stayed stationary to prevent creasing. This particular Hartmann trunk has its original hangers for suits and coats, a detachable laundry bag, five drawers with cloth ties to secure their contents, and all original hardware. Large brass lock is no longer functioning. An elegant and detailed piece of American Industrial Revolution travel history.
Measures 22 x 22 x 39 when closed.
