Also known as the penny-farthing, this high wheel bike is an excellent example of one of the very first machines to be called bicycles. The name “penny-farthing” comes from the British penny and farthing coins, one much larger than the other, so that the high wheel bicycle resembles a penny leading a farthing. The penny-farthing or high wheel bicycle became the symbol of the late Victorian era. Add this small piece of history to your retail space display or proudly ride it through town. But make sure to wear your helmet as this design is known for causing “headers”!
