Maxfield Parrish, an American painter active in the early 20th century, was best known for his saturated hues and idealized neo-classical imagery. This print, entitled “Air Castles”, debuted on the cover of the Ladies Home Journal in 1904 and won first prize in the Journal’s cover competition. In the print, a young man gazes up at bubbles that partially obscure a castle in the clouds.
