Starting in 1864, the Sargent Manufacturing Company, also known as Sargent & Co., began manufacturing hardware in New Haven, CT. During World Wars I and II, much of the plant’s production capacity was converted from hardware manufacturing to the production of items needed for the war effort. The post-war era saw Sargent & Co. focusing on locks and door-related mechanisms. This pair of ornate cast brass door plates features a scrolling leaf border and textured edges. Showcasing Sargent & Co.’s command of elegant door hardware design, these plates would make a statement on the front entrance of a restaurant, retail store, or even hotel.
