Founded in 1898 as Uhl’s Cycle Emporium by two brothers, Philip and Clement Uhl, the Toledo Metal Furniture Company originally specialized in the manufacture of bicycles. With the increase in popularity of automobiles, however, the Uhl brothers shifted their focus to designing and manufacturing ice cream parlor furniture, renaming the company Uhl Art Steel and eventually incorporating at the Toledo Metal Furniture Co. in 1904. The brothers Uhl made their mark in the furniture design world with their unique, and patented, locked truss rail leg assembly of cold rolled steel. The truss helped Toledo brand stools and chairs to withstand extensive wear and tear. This stool has a perfectly round seat and inviting height.
